Not only is Prey a shockingly good Predator prequel and a hell of an action movie, it now also holds the record for the best debut in streaming service Hulu’s entire history. Hulu is reporting that in its first three days of viewership, it has amassed more viewing hours than all of its TV series and movies over the same time period.

The last thing to hold that record was apparently The Kardashians, the reality series which became a Hulu exclusive after the original E! series ended. Prey also set records for Star+ and Disney+ in non-American regions where Hulu doesn’t exist.

It’s not hard to see why Prey has seen such a successful streaming debut after critics raved about the movie. Decider’s Johnny Loftus praised the film in his Prey movie review, writing, “Prey returns the Predator franchise to what made it great to begin with, incorporating the classic tactics and weapons of its titular galactic hunter against an inspiring, game new quarry.”

The hit film follows a young warrior named Naru, who must protect her people from a mysterious predator. The official film’s description reads, “The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”

The Dan Trachtenberg film is the latest installment in the Predator franchise, which began with Predator in 1987 and was followed by 1990’s Predator 2, 2010’s Predators and 2018’s The Predator.

Prey stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, Julian Black Antelope, and Dane DiLiegro. The film is now streaming on Hulu.
